About us

Who We Are and What We Do

Under the leadership of Dr. Ľuboš Hriň, Feidias brings artists together with a shared vision: to enrich the almost untouched natural landscape of the Eastern Carpathians with works of art, many of them of remarkable scale.

Every August, we gather in the village of Habura for more than a week-long sculpture symposium. Working side by side in a spirit of friendship, cooperation and mutual support, we create artworks that celebrate visual art while paying tribute to the legacy of the Slovak sculptor Olena Mandičová–Šinály.

To learn more about our story, our artists and the unique atmosphere of the symposium, order our publication Habura – Maľovane selo. It contains not just more information—it tells the whole story.

The Origins of Feidias

As time went on, his art-inspired spirit led him back to eastern Slovakia, where he joined forces with enthusiasts from the Drevený Kostolík Habura Foundation to help build what began as a modest local event known simply as the Habura Sculpture Symposium.

Why Feidias?

Antiquity has left us countless works of art and architectural masterpieces. Remarkably, the names of many of their creators—brilliant builders, sculptors and architects—have been lost to history, even though their works have survived for millennia. In those times, artistic creation was often regarded more as craftsmanship than as an individual achievement, and many of the hands behind great monuments belonged to anonymous artisans and labourers.

Yet some names have endured. Among them is Phidias (c. 490–430 BC), one of the greatest artists of ancient Greece. He is credited with creating the monumental Statue of Zeus at Olympia, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and played a key role in the artistic programme that shaped the Acropolis of Athens.

We chose the name Feidias because we believe in the timeless and enduring power of classical inspiration. For us, it symbolizes the ability of art to transcend generations, cultures and borders, remaining a source of beauty, meaning and inspiration across the centuries.
