Maximilián Čutek
Maximilián Čutek was born in 1984 in Bratislava, Slovakia. In 2004, he graduated from the Jozef Vydra School of Applied Arts in Bratislava. Between 2005 and 2006, he studied at the Václav Hollar School in Prague under Professor Jaromír Gemrot. He later graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, specialising in film editing under Professor Darina Smržová and Associate Professor Maroš Šlapeta.
Čutek’s painting is closely related to expressive abstraction and is distinguished by its rich and vibrant colour palette. Through the medium of painting, he gives full expression to his energetic artistic gesture, creating abstract and open-ended compositions shaped by his immediate emotional response to the world around him.
The intensity of colour plays a central role in his work, inviting viewers to construct their own associations, narratives and interpretations. Rather than offering a fixed meaning, his paintings encourage a personal dialogue between the artwork and the observer.
His sculptural work is characterised by a rudimentary and symbolic visual language. He draws inspiration from Hallstatt culture and other early European civilisations, seeking connections between contemporary artistic expression and ancient cultural memory. In keeping with this approach, he allows materials such as stone, wood and metal to retain their essential and natural qualities, emphasising their inherent character and authenticity.
Over the years, he has participated in numerous sculpture symposia, including Banská Štiavnica (2004), Trnava (2011), Nová Huta in Romania (2019), and Jistebník in the Czech Republic (2021–2023).
His work has been exhibited in a number of important galleries and institutions, including the M. A. Bazovský Gallery in Trenčín, the Kysuce Gallery, a gallery in Zurich, the Nedbalka Gallery in Bratislava, the Silencium Gallery at the Pan-European University in Bratislava, the Tatra Gallery in Poprad, and the collective exhibition Art Fest Bratislava 2023 at Pistori Palace in Bratislava.
In recent years, he has regularly participated in exhibitions organised by the Association of Slovak Visual Artists (SVS), further strengthening his position within the contemporary Slovak art scene.
