Peter Barta

Mgr. art. Peter Barta was born on 28 August 1983 in Nitra, Slovakia. A graduate of the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Bratislava and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, his artistic development was profoundly influenced by a study stay at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, located in the world-renowned centre of marble sculpture in Carrara, Italy.

Following his return to Slovakia, he devoted himself intensively to stone sculpture. While Carrara marble remains one of his preferred materials, he also works with other noble materials, including black marble, white onyx, alabaster and bronze.

Barta is a member of the artistic association N´89 and teaches at the Private School of Applied Arts in Nitra, where he shares his knowledge and experience with younger generations of artists.

He has presented his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Slovakia and abroad and has participated in a variety of sculpture symposia, which have provided opportunities for further artistic development and experimentation.

Peter Barta’s sculpture is characterised by visual economy, refined form and a poetic sensibility hidden within stone. His works invite viewers into a quiet dialogue, encouraging contemplation and reflection on the human condition.

His artistic interests include both plant-inspired (phytomorphic) and animal-inspired (zoomorphic) motifs. Nevertheless, his work is predominantly oriented towards abstraction, favouring pure, often minimalist forms and surfaces distinguished by their precision, delicacy and technical perfection.

Through the combination of masterful craftsmanship and a profound sensitivity to material, Barta creates sculptures that embody both strength and fragility, transforming stone into a medium of silence, balance and poetic expression.
