Daniel Janec
Daniel Janec was born on 12 February 1970 in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia. After graduating from the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Bratislava, he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, where he studied sculpture under Professor Juraj Meliš.
From the very beginning of his artistic career, Janec’s work has reflected an independent and distinctive creative path. While benefiting from an environment that encouraged artistic freedom, his artistic language developed without becoming a reflection of his teachers, retaining a strong personal identity.
His work is characterised by a deep respect for the traditions of classical sculpture. He works with wood, stone and, above all, bronze—the material most closely associated with his artistic practice. Janec casts his sculptures himself and devotes exceptional attention to every stage of the process, particularly to the final refinement and meticulous finishing of each piece.
His mastery of sculptural craftsmanship allows him to realise highly demanding forms while preserving a sense of delicacy and poetic expression, even in a material as substantial and enduring as bronze.
At the beginning of his artistic journey, he was also influenced by family friend and sculptor Oto Bachorík. Today, he leads bronze-casting instruction at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, passing on his knowledge and experience to a new generation of sculptors.
Large-scale sculptures in public space have become one of the defining aspects of his work. Like many sculptors, he finds relaxation and inspiration in fishing, a lifelong passion that balances the intensity of artistic creation.
Daniel Janec lives and works in the village of Pernek, where he maintains his studio.
